August 17, 1948 - December 21, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Keath Smart, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, on December 21st, 2018 at the age of 70.
Keath was born in Toronto, ON on August 17th, 1948. He met his wife Brenda in North Bay, ON and they married in Englehart, ON on April 14th, 1973.
In 1978 Keath packed up his family and headed west for Bella Coola, BC. There was an 8-year layover in Dawson Creek, BC where Keath worked as a janitor and maintenance man in order to save enough money to complete the relocation to the valley.
Finally, in 1987 Keath and his family arrived in Bella Coola where he resided until his death.
Keath enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, mushroom picking and gardening. He was an avid craftsman and would sell his hand carved wooden boxes at the Farmer's Market every Sunday. If he wasn't working his coffee station at the market you could find him out back on the bleacher's chatting with anyone and everyone. Keath LOVED to visit.
Keath is survived by his loving wife Brenda, his four children Brenda (Rob), Albert (Patti), Travis (Sherry) and Eric (Jessica); his three brothers Steve, Bill (Jasmine) and Ted (Diane) and one sister Opal (Fern).
He will be dearly missed by his 7 grandchildren: D-J, Tina, KitKat, Andrew, Riley, James and Katlyn(Morgan); five step-grandchildren: Mike, Phill (Sarah), Katrina, Carmen and Junior; one great grandson, Ben, and his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17th, 2019 in Bella Coola Valley. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association.
