March 16, 1936 - September 17, 2024

In loving memory ~

June was born on March, 16, 1936 in Bella Coola, B.C., and was raised on a small farm in a log cabin built by her father. Her rustic upbringing in that home filled with music set the tone for a life of hard work and conviviality.

June was industrious and held the opinion that if you wanted something done right, you should do it yourself. She began work at an early age as a 'whistle punk' in the logging industry, later building two 40' greenhouses and operating the first large-scale nursery in the Bella Coola Valley where she also ran a pine mushroom depot in the fall. She also drove truck as a local delivery person for Hodgson Freightways and, in her later years, delivered freight to the hospital from the airport.

Deeply community-minded, June also spent many hours volunteering. She devoted her time to the Sons of Norway, the Fall Fair Association, the Lobelco Community Club, the Farmers' Institute, Little Theatre Guild, the Arts Council, the local tourism association, and volunteering as a bouncer at the Bella Coola Rodeo beer garden. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and was a founding member of the Norwegian Heritage Society, formed to preserve the Norwegian Heritage House in Hagensborg.

An avid adventurer at heart, her travels took her on many motorhome trips with Walter, on horseback up into the Rainbow Mountains, and chasing sunshine in Maui and Mexico with beloved friends and family.

She was always available to offer a helping hand or word of advice.

June was predeceased by husband Walter, parents Dorothy and Melvin, brothers Ernest and Raudger. She leaves behind her loving family: Children Tom (Dolores), Laurie (Wayne), and Joe. Sister Carol (Rod), Brother Bill (Denise) and Sister-in-law Monika. Grandchildren Ron (Dimphy), Jon (Dawn), Trish, Mia and Morghan. Great-grandchildren Summer, Sari, Abby and Erik. Many loved nieces and nephews.
