Police say a man who went missing after an intense windstorm in Bella Coola Thursday has been found dead.

The man, who’s name has not been released to the public, was deemed missing after city officials found his float house destroyed at the Clayton Falls recreation site – just five kilometres west of Bella Coola.

“We had some really severe winds and his float house ended up breaking off of its mooring and being smashed to pieces on the shore,” said Fire Chief Fred Sorensen.

“It was brutal, it came out of the valley just to the northeast of the dock. It reached 70 or 80 [kilometers] and there is no protection where he was.”

The man was found along the shoreline but was deceased when located, Bella Coola RCMP said in a statement.

BC Coroners Service will take over the investigation and Mounties will not be releasing further information on the situation.

The Clayton Falls recreation site is located on Clayton Falls Creek, about five kilometers west of Bella Coola.
