Family and friends of a missing Bella Coola man are organizing a two-day search in Williams Lake and along Highway 20 towards Bella Coola right after Christmas.
Carl William Charlie Schooner, 30, was last seen in Williams Lake on Dec. 4, 2022 and reported missing on Dec. 6, 2022.
Loretta Williams is organizing the search effort for Monday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday, Dec. 27.
“I wanted to wait a bit to see if he would just come forward, but it’s been more than two weeks now and the family has been searching to no avail,” she said. “They have been getting leads to check along Highway 20 so we will carry out the search.”
To participate on Monday and/or Tuesday searchers are asked to meet at the Stampede Grounds at 9 a.m. for prayers and drum songs.
A coordinated search in Williams Lake and along Highway 20 will begin at 9:30 a.m.
After a break for lunch at noon, the search will resume at 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. when everyone is asked to return to the Stampede Grounds for a debriefing.
Participants are asked to wear a high visibility vest, ice grips for boots and to dress warmly.
Williams said if anyone has vests they can loan for the search or food to donate for lunch on Tuesday both would be greatly appreciated.
She can be reached on Facebook or at 250-267-4373.
Anyone with information about Schooner’s whereabouts is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-392-6211 or Carl’s father Carl Schooner at 778-267-4759.
