Cold, snow and wind in the forecast for Bella Coola

Puntzi Mountain is taking the top spot for coldest place in B.C. at -41 degrees today

Cold, windy and snowy weather will continue in Bella Coola for the remainder of the week.

Very strong outflow winds and severely cold wind chill values are expected or occurring.

An arctic ridge of high pressure will remain over the BC interior over the next few days. This system will continue to produce very strong outflow winds, frigid temperatures, and wind chill values of minus 20 and below through the week.

Frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes if adequate precautions are not taken when outdoors. Minimize exposed skin with hats, scarves and mittens or gloves. Ensure that shelter is provided for pets and outdoor animals. Store or anchor objects so they are not tossed by the wind causing injury or damage.

Arctic outflow warnings are issued when bitterly cold air flows from the interior to coastal communities and the outflow winds create wind chill values of -20 or less for 6 hours or more.

School buses were cancelled east and west of Williams Lake due to extreme cold and Puntzi Mountain is taking the top spot for coldest place in B.C. at -41 degrees today.

Motorists are being advised to drive with care and be prepared for the weather.
