It has now been determined the lone occupant of a single-vehicle roll over, that occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. north of Kamloops Tuesday, Oct. 8 has died, confirmed Cpl. Kyle Camalush, detachment commander for the Barriere RCMP.
The single female occupant, age 43, was a resident of the North Thompson Valley and next of kin have been notified at this time, Camalush told Black Press Media.
No further details are available at the time of this update at 3:00 p.m. as BC Highway Patrol continues its investigation of the crash.
Highway 5 has reopened to single lane alternating traffic and the next available update on DriveBC is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
Cpl. Camalush issued the following statement to Black Press: “At the RCMP, we understand that any collision along Highway 5 may cause concern or distress for our community members. If anyone is feeling the effects of trauma related to this incident or any other, please reach out to your available supports. Please contact the Barriere RCMP detachment should you require assistance in acquiring resources.”

B.C. Highway Control (BCHP) is investigating the crash that has shut down a portion of Highway 5, 15 kilometres north of Kamloops on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The collision was reported at 7 a.m. and BCHP notes a woman, who was driving and was the lone occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
BCHP said it will update the story when the highway re-opens.

DriveBC reports there is a multi-vehicle incident between Kealty Road and Orchard Lake Road 15 km north of Kamloops) Tuesday morning, Oct. 8. The road is closed and there is an assessment in progress. There is a detour in effect via Highway 24 and DriveBC reminds the public to please watch for road crews and equipment.
