A Vancouver man has been charged with second-degree murder charges related to the death of a 70 Mile House man on Boxing Day 2021.

Chinh Duc Vu, 64, was charged with second-degree murder on March 7, 2024, following a three-year investigation into the death of The-Thanh (Ted) Nguyen, 52, a resident of 70 Mile House. Nguyen was found by Clinton RCMP on Dec. 26 at 11:33 a.m. unresponsive, lying on the threshold of an outbuilding on his property in the 2600 block of Komori Road near 70 Mile House.

RCMP officers and attending BC EHS paramedics attempted life-saving measures without success and Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene. Not long after a suspect was arrested as they fled south through Clinton.

Clinton RCMP contacted the Southeast District Major Crime Unit who took over the investigation. The suspect was released from police custody without charge on Dec. 27, 2021, as the investigation continued.

After the investigation concluded, second-degree murder charges were approved by the BC Prosecution Service and Vu was arrested without incident on March 7.

“The securing of charge approval was the culmination of the tireless efforts involving investigators from the Southeast District Major Crime Unit, BC RCMP Forensic Identification Services, E-Division Headquarters and the Burnaby RCMP,” said Staff Sergeant Jason Smart, NCO of the Southeast District Major Crime Unit.

Vu is being held in custody until his first court appearance scheduled for April 3, 2025, in Kamloops B.C.
