Update: A police operation at a Williams Lake residence is now complete and the area is being reopened.
"I can confirm that there is no longer any concerns for public safety and we're appreciative of the public's support and patience during the process," Staff Sgt. Brad McKinnon told the Tribune.
Carson Drive is now open to traffic.
Update: As of 3:15 p.m. on Nov. 13, an RCMP tactical vehicle approached a house on Western Avenue in Williams Lake and sonic devices were deployed on both sides of the residence.
RCMP could be heard telling people to come out with their hands up.
Western Avenue has been blocked off at Carson Drive and Johnson Street.
Several RCMP vehicles and officers are on scene, with long guns, with some of the vehicles parked close to a home.
Clearview Crescent is also closed to the public as well as Carson Drive from McKinnon down to the entrance of Williams Lake Secondary School.
Staff Sgt. Brad McKinnon confirmed there is a police operation at a residence along Western Avenue.
"The location of concern is contained and we are asking that members of the public avoid the area until further notice."
As of 11 a.m. more RCMP vehicles and officers have arrived to the area.
Williams Lake Secondary School is a two blocks down Carson Avenue so the principal has been in contact with the RCMP.
The school is not under lockdown, but students have been told to stay away from the area where police are stationed.
