100 Mile House RCMP have obtained footage of a Nov. 23 theft of lumber and trailers from Exeter Truck Route.
Sgt. Brian Lamb said the investigation into the theft has determined that the lumber from the trailers had been unloaded at the 108 Mile Heritage Site pullout at 108 Mile Ranch. Lamb said that "a forklift was used to take the lumber off the stolen trailers and then loaded onto another tractor-trailer unit" with the unloading taking place between 11:20 p.m. and midnight on Nov. 22 based on surveillance footage obtained by police.
Anyone with dashcam footage of this area or who witnessed this incident is asked to contact 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456.
Impaired driving
On Dec. 7, BC Highway Patrol and General Duty members conducted enforcement for National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day.
RCMP conducted several proactive check stops, with Lamb noting that several motorists were checked with positive results. RCMP issued one immediate roadside prohibition from driving for three days and one immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days which involved a driver with no driver's license and open alcohol in the vehicle. The vehicle itself was impounded for 30 days.
RCMP will continue proactive impaired driving enforcement throughout the holiday season.
Earlier that week on Dec. 3, the RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch on Easzee Drive in the 108 Mile Ranch. After attending and locating the driver of the vehicle at a nearby residence, Lamb said that officers observed evidence of impairment by alcohol.
Officers then conducted a breath test using an approved screening device which the driver failed. Lamb said the driver was served an immediate prohibition from driving for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 30.
On Dec. 5, BC Highway Patrol conducted a patrol on Highway 97 near Highway 24. During the patrol, Lamb said the officers stopped a vehicle for an insurance offence.
While speaking with the male driver, RCMP observed evidence of alcohol consumption, which led to a breath demand being issued. The male driver subsequently refused to provide a sample of the breath for testing. RCMP say they issued an immediate roadside prohibition to the male for 90 days and impounded the vehicle for 30 days.
Finally on Sunday, Dec. 8, a report of another possibly impaired driver in the Lone Butte area was received by the RCMP. Lamb said officers made patrols and located the vehicle parked idling on Netherlands Road.
RCMP spoke with the driver where a bottle of open liquor and physical symptoms of alcohol consumption were observed. A breath test was conducted with an approved screening device that resulted in a failure. The driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days, with the vehicle being impounded for 30 days.
Break and Enter
On Dec. 3, a break and enter of three box containers on a residential property located on Keene Road was reported to the RCMP. Lamb said that the containers had been entered and a rug was stolen. RCMP believe that the incident occurred on Nov. 3.
On Dec. 7, RCMP responded to a report of a break-and-enter at the Canada Post office located on the 400 block of Birch Avenue. On arrival, Lamb said officers observed that several mailboxes had been pried open and damaged. The RCMP do not know when the incident occurred.
Vehicle rollovers
On Dec. 7, RCMP received a report of a semi-truck rollover on Highway 97 near Hickling Road. RCMP attended the scene with EHS and 100 Mile Fire Rescue and located a semi-tractor and trailer overturned on its side in the southbound lane ditch.
Lamb said officers spoke to the driver, who suffered minor injuries and reported losing control of the vehicle after it had hit some ice in the area. Road conditions were noted as very icy at the time, with officers observing black ice in the area.
As a precaution, the driver had been taken to hospital by ambulance. The recovery of the semi-tractor and trailer took several hours resulting in some alternating traffic in the area.
Later that week RCMP responded to reports of another single-vehicle rollover on Highway 97, this time near Begbie Summit. On arrival, RCMP, EHS and 100 Mile Fire Rescue found a single occupant trapped inside the vehicle.
The occupant had to be extracted from the vehicle by first responders. The driver sustained injuries that are suspected to be serious and was taken to the 100 Mile District General Hospital for further treatment. The cause of the collision is not known at this time.
Hit and Run
On Dec. 5, the RCMP received a report of a hit and run with pedestrians at a parking lot located on the 500 block of Alder Avenue. RCMP attended and met with three youths who told them of being struck by a vehicle which did not stop and left the scene. An investigation into the incident led to the vehicle responsible being identified. The registered owner was served violation tickets for failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Stolen fuel
On Dec. 6, the RCMP received a report of a theft of fuel from a parked semi-tractor located on Exeter Truck Route. RCMP say that sometime on the night of Dec. 3, several hundred litres of diesel were taken from the vehicle.
Stolen items from vehicle
Also on Dec. 6, the RCMP received a report of a theft from a vehicle on Hickling Road. Lamb said that a semi-tractor was entered where a Stihl 066 chainsaw, six pails of hydraulic and engine oil, an orange Jackson welding helmet, a bead blaster and some wrenches were taken.
