MLA’S Corner

The holidays truly are a magical time of year in the Cariboo. I have had the pleasure of attending numerous Christmas events over the last few weeks and it’s been wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate the holidays.

I would like to thank Boston Pizza for hosting the Children’s Development Centre’s 18th annual Christmas breakfast, Sacred Heart and the Children’s Development Centre for their fantastic Yuletide Dinner, the 108 Heritage Site Christmas Dinner and gift exchange, and HUB International for hosting their 20th annual Senior’s Dinner.

So many great people take time out of their busy lives to volunteer, organize, and make these events possible, and I want to extend my sincere thanks for their service. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the many groups who have lifted community spirits this holiday season. This includes the Williams Lake & District Seniors Activity Centre for their volunteer efforts, CKBX Radio in 100 Mile for their annual Turkey drive that has seen almost $12,000 donated, all the local sponsors of Operation Reindeer ensuring people arrive safely this holiday season, and the Salvation Army for their Kettle Bell fundraising.

Lastly, thank you to all the volunteers, fundraisers, and organizations that I have not mentioned, for all you do to generate Christmas spirit in our community.

This has been an amazing show of support for families in need, particularly this year, when we know food banks across the province are facing increased strain and record visits. We must continue to support our food banks, such as the 100 Mile Food Bank Society, who work tirelessly to keep people fed during the Christmas season and beyond.

This season, I have been thinking about how lucky we are to live in the Cariboo and the wonderful people who take the time to enhance our community.

From my family to yours, I wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season shared with friends, family, and loved ones.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
